McEACHEN- My ancestors lived in Drummond Township in 1861. My
Alexander McEACHEN/McEAGHAN/McHEAHON was born about 1809 in Scotland.
He married Jannet ALLEN, born in Canada, about 1849 as their first
child, Margaret was born in 1850. Other children were: Alexander Allen,
Robert, James (my ancestor), John, Mary and Daniel. John moved to
Arcola, Sask. in the 1880s and some of the family including Alexander
and Janet joined them and are buried there. I am trying to find the
parents of Alexander and Janet. I note there are other McEACHENs in
Lanark County.

BARTON- I would appreciate your help in finding anyone who is
undertaking family history studies of the BARTON family in Montague
Township. I have traced my paternal grandmother's lineage to that area
circa 1800 (John and Sarah), with earlier roots in the USA (Polly?). I
would appreciate hearing from anyone in the society who has any
knowledge of the family.

The Heritage Band of the Lanark and Renfrew 42'd Regiment will be flying
to Scotland this summer to perform at various locations in Perthshire.
Extra seats will be available on the charter flight, which leaves Aug. 1
for Glasgow. Return flights will be optional to suit ticket holders.
Because so many immigrants to this part of Canada came from Perthshire,
people with an interest in genealogical research may be interested in
this expedition. It should be noted that research libraries in both
Glasgow and Edinburgh are little more than an hour from the
Comrie/Crieff area where the Band will be staying.
The Scottish weather is usually at its best at this time of year, and
the tour coincides with the Comrie Fortnight Festival, as well as the
Edinburgh Tattoo and Festival. Travellers will be welcome to those
functions where the Band performs, or to follow their own agenda. Note
that 1996 marks the 250th anniversary of Culloden and the beginning of
the Clearances.
The Toronto to Glasgow fare is being negotiated, but will be
approximately $700 or $725, including taxes. Any of your members who
are interested in this trip should contact the writer for additional
information.
